You may have been noticing the increased presence of Sumerian Brewing Co. in and around the North West. Perhaps you’ve enjoyed a refreshing Narcissism IPA while taking in an afternoon Mariners game at Safeco Field; on tap this year in 7 different locations around the park! Did you know Sumerian just recently landed at SeaTac Airport’s Wolfgang Puck? An opportunity to have your taste buds take flight before you step on the plane. Yes, please!
For founders Holly and Mark Ihrig, their intention was always to come out of the gate with their eyes on the future and to grow. With Mark’s ambitious entrepreneurial DNA and Holly’s enthusiastic marketing skills, they set out to create something together. They were able to align their unique strengths, create their business and project plan, and start writing the Sumerian Story…. It is truly fitting that Holly and Mark have been told by the marketing team of 710 ESPN Seattle that they ARE the Chip and Joanna Gaines of Craft Beer.
Holly and Mark are committed to brewing thoughtfully crafted, great tasting, quality beer that is big and bold in character and flavor. They are not trying to do anything fancy; just keep it simple. Sumerian has won multiple awards including most recently the Double Gold from Sip Northwest and the bronze medal from Washington Beer Fest. Did we mention that their Lucidity Pilsner placed in the top 5 from Seattle Magazine? But who’s counting. Probably not Holly and Mark who maintain a completely humble air about them.
Ok beer enthusiasts, have you ever wondered about the impressive Sumerian beer names? Holy Water. Insanity. Unforgiven. Are you noticing a trend? Mark names all the beers with a rock theme; all named after different rock songs. Before sending over your requests, the names Mark choose are merely dependent on where his mood takes him.
Sumerian Brewing Co. has been in Woodinville for over 3 years conveniently located in the West Valley just off highway 202. 15510 Woodinville Redmond Rd NE. When Sumerian first moved in, the now bustling brewery looked like an empty office space. Through the hard work of Mark and Head Brewer, Tyson Schiffner, the transformation took place. Today the Sumerian tasting room has a fun laid back atmosphere that is casual and unassuming. Take a peak in back where all the brewing magic happens, and you will see they recently purchased their own canning line for increased “on-demand” freshness and distribution expansion. They have outdoor seating with picnic benches and string lights overhead. Parking is never a problem and don’t worry about checking out what days of the week they are open because you can find them here 7 days a week!
We would be completely remis not to mention that this year alone, Sumerian Brewing Co. will be a part of 109 events! Mark your calendars – September 10th Holly, Mark and the Sumerian team will be putting on the first annual Sumerian Brewing Co. Golf Tournament benefiting Inland Northwest SIDS/SUID Foundation. The event will be taking place at Willows Run Golf Course. You can sign up in the brewery or www.sumerianbrewingco.com.
These are exciting times for the Sumerian team. In fact, just this month they launched into the Eastern Washington market. Yet another example of Sumerian growing and building their craft brew following. Holly and Mark are very humbled by all the receptiveness and look forward to pushing their vision to be the “Stone Brewing of Washington” which is something they have quoted in articles and over the radio many times.
