The tarot card, Three of Cups, symbolizes conviviality, abundance, joy and friendship – all things that happen naturally with wine and what co-owners Lisa Swei and Mike Metheny saw in their lives and wanted to bring to life in their winery and winemaking. Since its founding in 2013, in Woodinville, they have taken those foundational keynotes and produced wines expressing the very best of the regions they source from including Red Mountain and the Walla Walla Valley. Three of Cups wines are produced in small batches using predominately new French oak that pair beautifully with food yet stand on their own having balance and expressive fruit.

The genesis of Three of Cups is not what you might expect: Lisa, with a Master’s of Library and Information Science (Librarian) and Mike with a background in Aerospace both landing successfully in high-tech are unlikely candidates for winemakers. But, it’s what is at the heart of these co-owners which tells the tale. Both are craftsman with a deep passion for fine wine that creates memories from the simplest of moments to the most cherished celebrations in life. Lisa’s palette keeps the wine food friendly with an eye on the future of where the wine trends are leaning to ensure a classic but trending future. Mike focuses on grapes sources, oak, equipment and maintenance, and making balanced wines that meets their goals.

The tasting room is a reflection of themselves, their families and friends. Everything at Three of Cups Lisa and Mike have touched from design to construction. “We have fun working together” and we think it shows when people meet us”; there is something for everyone at Three of Cups in their wines and the atmosphere. They are a family and dog friendly tasting room with a goal to educate but not dictate what someone tastes in their glass. They hope everyone will come by and share in our fun and help us all make new experiences while enjoying a glass of wine.
